Biography
Prior to joining the firm, Rezza has worked as legal counsel for various start-up companies, which has enabled him to amass a wealth of experience in the field of corporate and commercial law. As legal counsel, he provided advice on matters concerning cross-border transactions, corporate transactions, as well as employment, tax, and regulatory matters. He also assisted in the formulation of corporate policies, and drafted commercial contracts and other legal documents.
Aside from being a lawyer, Rezza is also a world-class cricket player. He plays for the Singapore Men’s Cricket Team, and has represented the country in several national competitions. Most notably, Rezza was part of the team that won Singapore its first gold medal in the South East Asian (SEA) Games in 2017. Such is a testament to the dedication and hard work he puts in whatever endeavour he chooses.
Work Highlights
Successfully represented a client in a case before the Court of Appeal against JP Morgan Chase Bank, assailing the latter’s refusal to honour the client’s confirmed letters of credit on the basis of a sanctions clause. Effectively argued that the said sanctions clause should be construed objectively, which led to the finding that the bank’s refusal to honour the letters of credit was invalid, and that the client is entitled to an award of damages.
Successfully acted for the Law Society of Singapore in a disciplinary action case against a solicitor and advocate of the Singapore Bar who was found guilty of having committed a misconduct. Managed to get an order requiring the defendant to pay a penalty amounting to S$5,000.
Represented the accused in a criminal case involving several sexual-related charges. Argued for the accused to be placed under probation, and for the mitigation of his sentence.
Facilitated the successful acquisition of Zeemart by Liven, an Australian company.
Successfully obtained a personal protection order (PPO) on behalf of a client.
Acted on various Muslim family law cases before the Singapore Syariah Court.
